Kinoru Stadium set for June completion
Meru County will soon be able to host international level sporting activities as work in the Kinoru stadium is progressing according to plan.
When complete the stadium will boasts of VVIP and a VIP Pavilion, VIP and standard changing rooms, Northern and Southern terraces, an ultra-modern tarmacked running track, World Cup 2018 Bermuda standard pitch grass, a borehole, one elevated and two underground water tanks, cabro paved roads surrounding the stadium, a parking lot and drainage system.
While on inspection tour of the stadium, Meru deputy governor Titus Ntuchiu expressed optimism that Kinoru Stadium will be ready before June in time to host the Madaraka day celebrations.
“We are happy that Kinoru Stadium will soon be the only of its kind in the region, with capacity to host not only national but also international events, ” Ntuchiu said on his Facebook Page.
“Today we inspected and are quite happy with the progress of renovating Kinoru Stadium. I am grateful to the President and the National Government for announcing that this year's Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Kinoru Stadium. The stadium will by then have been improved to International standards again thanks to the National Government through Sports Kenya,” Ntuchiu added.
By completion time, at least Ksh 892 million will have been spent by the national government then the stadium will be handed to the Meru County government as per a Memorandum of Understanding signed before construction commenced.
The stadium was earmarked to host the 2018 CHAN competition in January but slow works made CAF shift the competition to Morocco.
Premier League side Tusker had nominated the stadium to host its home matches before construction began and the record crowd witnessed during matches was a clear testimony of the football hunger in the grassroots.
