It is a deal for David Gateri in South Africa
Nairobi City stars striker David Gateri is back into the country after a successful two weeks outing in South Africa. The youthful striker is expected to travel back for an official contract signing at the Cape united soccer school in Cape town South Africa after completing his fourth form KCSE exams at Lang’ata high school.
Gateri impressed the coaches at the soccer academy with his creative skills, speed, tactics and technique in his two weeks successful trials down south.
Cape United is one of the world’s finest independent Soccer Schools and focuses on exposing Africa’s talent to the world with majority of its players being recruited in leading European clubs and of course plays as a major feed to the South African premier league.
Speaking after arrival from South Africa, Gateri is confident he will be able to uplift his career at the internationally recognized soccer school with brighter chances of achieving passage to an international professional career in Europe.
“The academy is one of the best in the world and it is a previledge for me to be accorded the opportunity of joining the school. Am confident this is the beginning of better things for other youths in Kenya since they have registered some keen interest in signing more Kenyan youths into their program.”
Born in June 1994, Gateri grew up and nurtured his career at the Kawangware based Vapor fc before joining world hope in early 2008 which later transformed to be called Nairobi City stars.
In 2009, He won the prestigious National secondary schools’ title with his school Lang’ata high school. In last year’s (2009) KPL awards, Gateri emerged third best in the category of most promising player.
Gateri has attributed his success in the trials to focus, hardwork, consistency, self discipline and prayer.
“It was not an easy test for me down there, I was submitted to a series of hard tests but I managed to sail through all of them. Am happy for making it to the academy and I look forward to my return in November. Am currently concentrating on my exams which are equally important to me.” He said.
